MacBook won't turn on? Start with these steps.
A MacBook that looks dead is often just a flat battery, a bad charger or a dark screen on a Mac that is actually running.

Step by step
Charge it for 30 minutes
Use the original adapter in a wall outlet and try another cable if you have one. A completely flat battery needs a few minutes before the Mac responds.
Hold the power button for 10 seconds
Release it, wait a few seconds, then press it once to start the Mac.
Check if it's only the screen
Listen for the fan or the startup sound, press the brightness key, or plug in an external display. If the external screen works, the MacBook screen or its cable is the problem.
Reset the SMC on Intel MacBooks
Apple silicon Macs (M1 and later) don't need this. For Intel models, Apple's support site lists the exact keys for your model.
Unplug every accessory
A faulty USB hub or drive can stop a Mac from starting. Try with only the charger connected.
When to call a technician
Call a technician if nothing happens after these steps, the Mac got wet, or it starts and shuts down again. A MacBook screen repair starts from $249 and logic board repair from $299, and you get a written price before any work. See repairs and prices
