Wi-Fi not working? Fix it in this order.

Start with the quick fixes that solve most Wi-Fi problems, then find out if it's one device, the router or your internet provider.

Device troubleshooting

Step by step

Restart the modem and router

Unplug both for 30 seconds, plug the modem in first, wait for its lights to settle, then the router.

Test another device

If phones work but one laptop doesn't, the problem is that laptop, not your Wi-Fi.

Forget the network and rejoin

On the device that fails, forget your Wi-Fi network and connect again with the password.

Check for an outage

If the modem's internet light is red or off, your provider may have an outage in your area.

Move closer to the router

If Wi-Fi works near the router but not upstairs or in the basement, you have a dead zone, not a broken router.

When to call a technician

Call a technician for dead zones, a router that keeps dropping, or a new router to install and secure. A Wi-Fi dead zone fix starts from $99 and a router install from $69, at your home. See repairs and prices
